On July 3rd, the House of Representatives voted 218-214 to pass the budget reconciliation bill, representing a cut of over $1 trillion in critical funding for Medicaid and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, known as CalFresh in California), over the next ten years. The bill represents the biggest cut to Medicaid in the program’s history and will lead to the loss of health care coverage for millions, including many of our community members.

We at Encompass Community Services are incredibly concerned. The direct impacts to our agency remain unclear as State and County budgets will have to be amended to account for the federal funding deficits. We appreciate every staff member and community member who advocated against the bill and these devastating cuts. We knew it was going to be an uphill battle, but our efforts were important and necessary. With each passing day, assisted by our activities, more Americans are aware of this bill and its devastating impacts.

Our disappointment is matched only by our resolve. Encompass will continue to stand firm and work tirelessly to meet the needs of our clients. We will continue to support our staff who remain dedicated to providing the quality health and human services we are known for. And we will continue to collaborate with our community partners to develop creative ways to bolster our mission of health equity for all.

With adversity comes strength. Together, we will weather these uncertain times with compassion and determination. Thank you, as always, for your ongoing support.
